Bin Laden is dead . . . .

hmmmm. . . .

G'day JustinO,

I did a bit of Googling today and came up with this:

There have been many media reports since 2001 that Osama bin Laden is "probably" dead, that he suffered an untreated lung complication or kidney disease and/or diabetes, and that he died sometime in December 2001.

Various tapes released by Al-Qaeda in the name of bin Laden are voice only. According to a media report, the last video of bin Laden was released December 27, 2001. The video was dismissed by the Bush administration as sick propaganda possibly designed to mask the fact the al-Qa'eda leader was already dead. "He could have made the video and then ordered that it be released in the event of his death," said one White House aide.

Well, if bin Laden was already dead, then who was the dude shot by American special forces in a Pakistani compound the other day, and then whisked away to be buried at sea?

There are those who question the legality of the American covert operation on foreign soil without Pakistani permission, and the shooting of an unarmed man before disposing of his body at sea rather than capturing him alive and bringing him to justice in a court of law.

Now there's something to think about.

Gary

It'll be interesting to see what J has to say about this. J believes in "due process" - that everyone is entitled to be represented in a court of law and have a fair trial.

Also, the bin Laden operation was called 'Geronimo' after the famous Apache rebel. In the old Wild West days, outlaws were often hunted down, with 'Wanted Dead or Alive' posters stuck on trees. No trial... just a gun or a noose.

Interesting, yes?

The man chose his own fate gentleman. If he were to be captured, his followers would not continue to support him. By being killed, he went down in history as their hero. They will most likely now look to revenge his death. This is not over, by far.

Gotta say that this Bin Laden death euphoria around the place scares me.

The death of one man will not stop the killing, in fact I am dreadfully certain that the rather public celebration in the US and around the world will only increase the horror.

I just wish people would have taken heed of the following quotation:

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr

Greg, I agree with you. I agree with the quote also...though the first sentence of it is not familiar to me...I don't think that is attributable to Martin Luther King. He would probably have added it to his own thoughts, however. Whoever wrote that was certainly channelling him. Patrick

Well, here's another question for yas.

What makes anyone think the world would have been a safer place with Osama Bin Laden still in it?

Why Geronimo? My guess would be becuz Geronimo evaded both US and Mexico troops for nearly 3 decades.

If you consider the Kenya bombings, binladen did the same for what, 15 years?

But i rather admire Geronimo. My Grandfather, who died before i was born, was 1/4 Native American.

As for Gary's video questions, There was a lot of wishful thinking going on back then 2001 and forward. And if he did die, where is his grave? His body?

Me thinks OBL is (as any surfer would say) lower than shark-shit.

Now, here is a different angle on OBL and Pakistan.

The Paki's made billions of dollars in US aid because of OBL. It would be in the Paki'$ intere$t to keep OBL in hiding. If he popped up in some other country, then where would the dollar$ flow?

I mean, having OBL, was like winning lotto. Why turn him in for 25 mil when you can make billions?

Mr Anonymouse, I think you are correct.
I don't think that quote was totally accurate.

However, I believe the man did say:
"Why should we love our enemies? The first reason is fairly obvious. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction."

He did not say teh first sentence in so many words, but as you say, it is entirely in keeping with what he would ahve at least thought, if not said at some time or another.

I also read quie a bit more about the man and what he said/did whilst I was searching.... interesting, thanks.

PS, is this the same Mr Anonymous who has popped up a few times already? C'mon, give us a signature or something...even "Mr Anonymouse" would do!! ...(chuckle!)

And while you're bringing the American troops home, don't forget the Aussies, the Brits, the Canadians, the Danish, the Dutch, the French, the Germans, the Italians, the New Zealanders, the Norwegians, the Polish, the Spanish, and the Turks.

And once our boys are all safely home, the Taliban and other radicals can have the place to themselves to do as they please.

JustinO, think about the war on terror as a kind of AIDS epidemic. Just because the majority of people don't suffer from it, or other diseases such as malaria or cancer, should those diseases be left to their own devices to spread as they wish? Or should the world unite to eradicate them?

Remember, 9/11 was carried out from within the US. Terrorism is not confined to places beyond our borders. It is a disease that threatens the whole world - both from within and without.

How could I NOT concur with you? ;-)
