Yes, Jim, the statement is true. . .but one cannot just take a sentence from Jung. . .or anyone else. . and post it all by itself. People selecting quotes for blogs usually do not stop to think that a sentence/ statement needs to be taken in context if you want to know the thought of the speaker/writer.

We realize this especially when we walk in upon a conversation and know not what went before. . . .and then leave. . .as the conversation continues without our presence. A good source of many 'ruined' reputations and misunderstood ideas.

Our inner self does not stand on its own, divorced from the world and context in which we live. If I live a shallow life, based only on what happens with and in others, without some minimum reflected life[ looking within. .. to my own thoughts, needs, feelings]. . . or if I totally ignore anything external to me. . I will be hopelessly out of touch.

Biblical fundamentalists do that way too often. . .and will use a sentence or phrase from the Bible to condemn, persecute, bash, destroy others. . .Gay people know this all too well. . .and have suffered from the stupidity of these people.

The quote from Jung. . . .and my comments here. . .are all true. . BUT only in context, in juxtaposition with others - people and statements.

I think Carl means your vision will become clear when you analyse what causes you to think the way you do. In other words, if a person like Michelle Bachmann understood the reasons why she thinks like she does, she'd be horrified. Hehe.

To "look into your heart" is metaphorical. Hearts don't think.
