Sounds like a break is much needed. It's nice to have a home to go home to....My parents are off the deep end and living in assisted living now.
You are soooo right. Communication is key. Sometimes distance can really hinder that. Share everything with him and hopefully he'll do the same. It's difficult to know what's going on when you are not there.

Oh how I envy you. I'm going through the roughest two weeks of the year, and will be working Sunday and over Thanksgiving weekend. ( Maybe Christmas will be better. )
