"I am HOME for Christmas. . . ."

When I awoke last Wednesday morning my first thought was "Today is the day. . . I am going HOME!"

All papers and student-related stuff were in order, grades had been posted, all my duties were taken care of. . .There were no appointments to keep at the clinic. . . I was free to go!

All I had to do was collect my stuff, kiss Mde Bouvier and "See you in a few days" (she will be here this weekend for the Christmas holidays). .. Peter had already gone to work.  I was ready to hit the road.  I was off. . .in more ways that one!  lol

I have been home a week, just kicking back, and doing as little as I can get away with.  Peter came home this weekend, free of classes and the related work.  So we are two lazy guys, being pampered by our indulgent mothers who like having their sons at home.  So we are both taking advantage of all the "privileges" that involves.

Weather is so-so, certainly not beach weather. . . .but good for just roamin'. . .taking time to "think my own thoughts, feel my own feelings".  Being home gives me good occasions for reflecting, turning thoughts and ideas over to re-examine.
Also I brought home my collection of articles and other psych material, things I have saved and put away for That Day when I start to get organized for real and begin to write my dissertation thesis, a de riguer requirement for the doctorate program.

My general area of concentration is how our own self-image affects formation of and living out our "personality". . . . .Even the  concepts attached to the word personality need exploring and in some instances clarification.  Like a basic question: how much can one distinguish self-image FROM personality?  See what lies before me. . . . .and this is just an "on the side" project. . ..in addition to my regular classes, teaching one class, and work at the clinic.  So, as Mde Bouvier says. . ."On verra. . . we shall see. . ."

Yep, I shall see. . . .Meanwhile, let's not forget to EN- JOY life

While you are home, don't forget to take your skate board and head up to Ptown to skate on that freshly paved Commercial Street. It seems like a miracle to see one solid stretch of asphalt instead of all of those bone-jarring patches which one used to hit while riding a bike the wrong way down the street.

Richard, ain't thet noice?!
Watch out on hot summer nights with near-wall-to-wall bodies and a gang of boarders from "The Hood" cruise Commercial St.woo wooo crunch crunch. .LOL

"self-image FROM personality?"

wow Albert O'Shea, cant wrap my head around that one.

Am i who i say/think i am?

or...

do the emotions i project reflect my actual mind-set?

Oh well. I could never write a good report until right before the deadline, when thoughts and ideas would finally flood my mind.

I would have thought the simple maxim about personality and self-image is, "If you think you look good, you'll feel good and will reflect self confidence." Of course, if you're an obsessive-compulsive with narcissistic tendencies this might not apply. I had a good looking aunt who obsessed all her life about her nose, which she thought was too big.
A larger impediment to Christmas relaxation is the pending dissertation deadlines. I thought all grad students worried about failure. My father and I both used to have that recurring nightmare in which we go into a classroom for a final and know nothing about the subject. Sometimes those dreams can follow you all your life.

Poor man!!! Fortunately I do not have those fears. . and I am not wasting christmas relaxation on a dissertation.
I may do a bit of work sifting
thru accumulated material. . if I am bored at any time. . LOL and plan to start actual "real work" when Peter returns to work. He has to go back earlier than I do. :-(( I have things "outlined" in my head. . I know what I want to do. . more a questions of putting stuff together and on paper.
Mentally I've been working on the thesis since . . . a long time. . can't remember just when I hit on my topic.

COOPS, off the top of my head I think self-image and personality go hand-in-hand. .
Subject to change: but I'd say self-image is major formant to personality. . . .hard to separate, I think. .

Thanks for the greetings. Peters sends the "season's usual" back-atcha. lol

Seems to me that personality is shaped by environment... the people around us and how they react to the way we behave. If we're funny, they laugh, so we focus on being funny. Pavlov's dog.

Once our personality is shaped, it determines our self image. If other people react favorably towards us, we feel good about ourselves. And vice versa.

Ya know, if you fill a bottle with ketchup, it becomes a bottle of ketchup.
