Dinner with the Prime Minister
Dear Gary,
On Tuesday night, six GetUp members – all in loving, same-sex relationships – sat down to dinner with the Prime Minister to make the case for marriage equality.
Why did the Prime Minister meet with these couples - and their children - on an issue she'd rather avoid? Because six months ago GetUp members moved at lightning pace to chip in and win her time at a charity auction.
What happened at dinner with the PM? Hear first-hand from our couples by watching this video: www.getup.org.au/campaigns/marriage-equality/pm-dinner/watch-the-video
Sandy and Louise are raising two beautiful young boys in Sydney. John and Steve have been together eleven years and own a butcher shop together in Melbourne. Elaine and Sharon live in Brisbane and flew all the way to Canada to be married, only to come home to a country where their union isn't recognised.
After having a chance to tell their stories, the couples passed on some encouraging news: they told us the Prime Minister said she can see times are changing; that people are embracing that marriage is being defined in less traditional and restrictive ways and that marriage equality is ultimately "inevitable".
G'day Justino,
Aussie gay couples who had dinner with the prime
mininister the other night - they say legalization is inevitable.
Gary

Gary, Thanks for your video. Justin, Thank you also. It really shows the True Love of Gay couples. That is what it is all about, the Right to Love each other in our God Given World, Happiness is for All whom seek it. We see the world of Hate.........Love is Given by our Maker, Whom has shared All that He Has...
Oh this is going to be such a non-issue so soon! I can SMELL IT! Giddy up!
Thanks Justin for posting this and I will spread it along on my blog.
Just remember that Rick Santorum believes it would be better that those two boys be raised by criminals than their moms. Jesus H. Christ!
Let's hope PM Julia survives the leadership challenge from that shit Rudd on Monday.
Otherwise that dinner might have been a waste of time cos Rudd is not likely to go down the gay marriage path from what I have heard of him.
Besides that, he's an egotist, not a team player and was kicked out once already for not pleasing his colleagues with his party political direction, there will be no sensible governing of this country if he gets back in what is a minority government to start with.
Julia, our first female PM has a hard enough job just cos she's the first female PM of this country, she has a minority govt minefield to tread through and a knife-wielding sneaky prick after her seat, not the most envious position.
Boy, you Americans think you have problems! We got a right banana here in Rudd.
Greg got his wish... Gillard 71, Rudd 31.
However, despite Gillard admitting that same-sex marriage is a legal inevitability, it won't be her doing (or Rudd's for that matter). They're both conservatives, and will leave it to another generation to bring into being.
What a total farce our politics is at the moment! A hung parliament will never make all teh right decisions, too many factions with their own agendas not willing to bend for fear of losing votes.
I cannot see, in the near future, a government having the guts and sensibility to make a decision in favour of gay marriage or anything that may lose them votes.
Biggest problem seems to me, is that teh government terms are too short and all the silly pollies have one eye over their shoulder (like Julia) and the other on the next election rather than looking firmly forward and making the best longer term decisions un the best interests of the country.
No idea how you fix that though.
So, I am not expecting gay marriage to be legalised in the foreseeable future. We need another maverick PM with guts who is not afraid to make what they think might be unpopular decisions that might effect their chances of re-election.
My 2c worth, sorry, it's just that I'm sick of this political shitfight going on here.
I fell better now, a bit.
