.Thank God we do not live in Nigeria. . . or other Islamic African countries. In a way, though, the Nigerians are in a similar sitz to RCs. . .Legally being homosexual is punishable by civil/religious Sharia AND the vile cruel punishments prescriibed. Ordinary adhaerents to KORAN and Sharia law are bound in conscience to uphold/support The Law. Though not as violent Roman Catholic law is similar. . ..right? Oh officially we have not "nice words" to regulate our holding to the Law. . . but underneath are the long-standing attitudes which are not rooted out by half=hearted words. . . .
As with Nigerian gays how FREE are we to come out, to verbally reveal who we are. . . ? Oh we are free to reveal but we must suffer the consequences. . . .right? ~~~justin
Well, GaryO, you must remember this: I was writing from my own personal view, not God's. He takes care of God-Self. . I have quite enough being accountable for myself! LOL I know there sre more thsn s few who have fled Nigeria, esp from Northern Nigeria which is almost totally Muslim. . and more are trying to get out, to find a country or fiefdom who will take them in! I don't envision God like a chessmaster moving the pawns around. It is my simple opinion that G-d created humankind with more than sufficient intelligence to run her/his life effectively without G-d pulling strings or feather-dusters. ~~ JustinO

Imagine holding the Olympics in Nigeria...
Makes me wonder if any modern-day Arab/Islamic nation has ever hosted the Olympics? ======= Sorry, JIMM, I mssed up posting your comment. My correction. . . ;-)
The problem with the "dark continent" is that superstition, which is essentially no different from voodoo and black magic, is still prevalent.
The thing with Christianity is that Jesus wasn't a witchdoctor. He did far more practical things like turn water into wine, and figure out how to feed the multitude without a Maccas or KFC in the hood.
The human propensity for superstition is indeed a worry because it ignores rational thinking and logic, particularly in relation to minorities.
Interestingly enough, a month and a day ago there were credible reports of a "Christian" leader in the Central African Republic who was publically seen lunching on the leg of a Muslim he had killed. You may recall that Bokassa, who was briefly the emperor of the Central African Republic about 30 years back (and commissioned a diamond covered throne from Cartier)was widely reported to be a cannibal, as was the late dictator Idi Amin of Uganda Cannibalism is reported to be a cultural imperative among numerous tribes in the Congo. I doubt if these fellows dine on their children, unless in a pinch. The only good thing I can say about these fellows is that at least they eat what they kill rather than discard the carcass; that's a hallmark of a good hunter.

If we have God to thank for not living in Nigeria, what does that say for the people who do?

This is why we have a separation of church and state. And until 100% of the people can agree on one religion, that's the was it should stay.
Ans, Stew, this separation must be preserved for healthy living. . .when one church dominates people are not free.
They don't call it the dark continent for nothing.
