Pizzeria Reserves Right to Ban Lawmakers After Anti-Gay Bill
An Arizona pizzeria that threatened to ban lawmakers who passed a bill allowing shopkeepers to refuse service to gays on religious grounds says customer approval has been "overwhelming."
"One lady called and said she would never eat here again, but that’s been dwarfed by the 500 or so calls in the other direction," said Evan Stevens, manager of Rocco's Little Chicago Pizzeria in Tucson.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, hasn't said yet whether she will sign the bill, which was passed by the Legislature late Thursday. Supporters of the proposed law say it expands religious freedom; opponents say it legalizes discrimination.
Rocco DiGrazia, the pizzeria owner, waded into the debate with a tweet that said he reserved the "right to eject any State Senators we see fit to kick out."
He followed up with a sign in the window that he said has drawn an almost entirely positive response.
Stevens said the boss decided to take a stand because he has so many gay employers and customers. He said he had not heard of any other business following suit.

The same legal legal conumbrum was presented when the first civil rights demonstrators sat in at a Greensboro, NC department store lunch counter: To what extent does a private citizen engaged in trade with the public can enforce his right to enforce the trespass laws against customers who share political views contrary to his? The answer is that he can elect not to entertain any member of the public, unless some other statutory provision makes his discrimination illegal. Somehow I think the Arizona legislature doesn't care enough to want to make it illegal for a merchant to deny service to someone who doesn't entertain his political beliefs.
This reminds me of an incident long ago when one of my college fraternity brothers, who was jewish, was asked by his father to run the family burlap mill in a small southern town during the summer when his dad was overseas. A large number of truck drivers who picked up and delivered loads from the factory patronized a truck stop across from the plant driveway. One day my friend stopped by to gas up and was shocked to see a poster in the window advertising a large rally of the Ku Klux Klan. He went into the store and told the man he should take the sign down, but the truck stop owner refused. So my buddy proceeded to instruct all drivers not to patronize the establishment. It hurt the truck stop owner big time. But when my friend's dad came home he ordered an end to the boycott. While he understood his son's belief that they shouldn't patronize any hate organization that condemned blacks and jews, the older man thought a boycott was tactically ill-advised. He felt it wouldn't accomplish anything but make the truck stop owner, and his rednecked customers, bitter.
His son didn't agree.
hmmm. . . .interesting. . . .so many aspects/ramifications needing to be considered. . . ."So much to learn. . . ."

So much to learn, JustinO? And when do you think it will end?
Anyway, appeasing bullies to avoid confrontation doesn't work. PM Chamberlain tried it with Hitler in the hope of avoiding invasion.
Love the Debate that is going on.
They talk about the Clowns disappearing. No such Luck, not only are they Crooks, but now Clowns. Should we call them "Crooked Clowns" then the Laughter can begin. "That is all their is my friend", as the Sad Sad song beats out the Melody. Then we ALL can roll into our own graves of hysteria. Amen LOL
Since no-one bothered to answer Gary's question, "So much to learn, JustinO? And when do you think it will end?" I took it upon myself. It ends when you decide that you know everything of importance and don't want to pollute your "beautiful mind" http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/images/blpic-barbarabushbeautiful.htm with unnecessary stuff...
Thanks, JP. . .you are a gentleman and a scholar. ;-)
