Certainly, Mr. J., you cannot believe that I am upholding Mr Sheen as role model for American-Irish young, or anyone else, and that remark was disrespectful and belittling.
The hoopla to which I refer is the very vocal support he is receiving and outcries that his "rights" are being trodden upon; that actions taken against him are uncalled for and blatantly unjust, especially the placing of his infant sons into protective custody ; outcries of the injustice and capricious treatment he is receiving from CBS in cancelling his show. "Two and a Half Men".
Part of the hoopla to which I refer is that his show is voted the most watched of all the "comedy" sitcoms currently on American TV. Doesn't that speak in itself that most certainly. . . .to repeat for myself. . . I would never propose Mr Sheen as a role model in his TV characher and more outrageous real real life behavior? This just shows we have created and left for younger people a taste-free, mean society.

Sorry, Justin. I thought when you asked what the whoopla was about that you were asking what Sheen had done that was so wrong. I look upon him as I do all of these pampered Hollywood miscreants like Lohan and Hilton.
I think I missed the point. Maybe I should watch more American sitcoms. Meanwhile, I do remember the lyrics to the Mr Sheen TV commercial:
Oh Mr Sheen! Oh Mr Sheen!
You're the quickest housework trick I've ever seen.
All the hard work you abolish ... as the furniture I polish ...
Wax and polish as you dust, with Mr Sheen!
Gary, I suggest you avoid most American sit-coms. .most are an insult to your intelligence. Trash prima classa!
Not being a fan on Mr.Sheen and his 'work', I do find it unfortunate that our 'western' culture/media thrives on watching the complete tearing apart of someone when they are in an obviously vulnerable state due to 'whatever' is responsible for their demise. (now that was/is a long sentence!). Kind of reminds me of another civilization which included gladiators and the like.
I'm not a fan of American Sitcoms, Mr. Sheen on or off camera, what a poor example of an individual!, a shame. One can always strive to be a better person in life if they want to.

Boy did I ever screw up. Rather than being of Irish ancestry, Charlie Sheen's real name is Carlos Estevez.
Addendum--According to Wikipedia Martin Sheen, Charlie's father, was born to a Spanish father and an Irish mother. Given a Spanish name, he took the last name of Sheen as his trade name because of the popular Catholic television commentator of the '50's Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.
I read or heard somewhere that a lot of Spanish migrants sailed around to the west coast of Ireland and settled there many centuries ago, and introduced Catholicism to Ireland. Which explains why Irish bulls don't react to the locals waving green rags at them.
