Just because the church has not supported/allowed/encouraged gay marriage or partnerships does not mean they have not been happening over thousands of years, or that there have been countless people who wanted to openly live with one of their own kind, forced to live a lie.
Relationships, partnerships between people of the same sex have most likely been happening since the beginning of human existence, more or less (sorry Eve)
So, in reality, all that is happening is that we are changing the definition of a word which will make it more acceptable for those so inclined to do what they always wanted to do but have either held back or have hidden it.
Big deal, so world, get over it and get on with it. What took us so long?
